Over Winter in Ardfern 2012

This winter's grief was all about electrics. In the depths of winter we discovered a quirk of our Victron Phoenix Multicharger. When the house batteries became exhausted during a prolonged shorepower failure the charger refused to boot until it had power from the batteries it was designed to charge! All very confusing and it took a good deal of head scratching before we were able to figure out what was going on.

Then we had the mystery of the alternators which turned out not to be be an alternator problem after all. Again much head scratching  and we belatedly discovered that it was the external regulator that had gone pop.

Finally, and as yet unresolved, the Fischer Panda diesel generator refuses to kick in to life. A bit of web browsing about Fischer Panda generators reveals some pretty gloomy accounts of design errors, lousy customer service and expensive solutions that turn out not to be solutions. Not really looking forward to getting immersed in the generator problem so managing happily without for now!
