A Glass of Baileys
It’s not often we toast the day with a glass of Baileys but it had been an exceptionally fine one.
We had dipped into the ice pack and found wildlife in profusion, a thousand square miles of ice sculpture and all of it bathed in bright sunshine. Whales, seals, sealers and seabirds. The day had had it all.
A supper in the cockpit of Greenlandic scallops, new potatoes and a mushroom source whilst sailing in cold, arctic air through a blue ocean studded with gleaming ice. A scene framed by the mountains of Disko to the north which were themselves swathed with yet more ice.
At 2300 the anchor went down and bit first time welcoming us to the safe embrace of Qekquartasuak’s fine natural harbour. The sun was still high in the sky as we relaxed in the warm saloon , saw in the new day and counted our blessings.
A Baileys, served without ice and in the ship’s crystal, was the finishing touch to a perfect day.
