Albert Pilgrim drives a big truck which, in Australia, would be known as s twin cab ute. A hand painted sign above the roof says, "Welding: Steel, Aluminium, Stainless and Gas." In the back of his truck is all of his gear. Like a taxi Albert cruises the street of St Anthony hoping to pick up a little business.
As it happens we were in need of a little welding having damaged the roll bar on our Manson anchor in Lady's Arm when trying to anchor on rock.
For the first, and possibly last, time in my life I flagged the welder down in the car park of the pharmacy. I explained what we needed and he promised to meet us on the dock a few minutes later just as soon as he had returned to his workshop to pick up his helmet.
True to his word Albert was quickly on the dock and we hoisted the 45kg anchor on a halliard for him to inspect on terra firma. Not having any stainless with him we loaded the anchor onto his truck and it was whisked away to his workshop where the repair was done and dusted within an hour.
Never has there been an easier boat fix thanks to the enterprise of Albert the welder who cruises town looking for trade.
