Winter returned to the Tirol today. The skis were left at home and were replaced by walking crampons. Those that wore them stayed on their two feet. Those that thought they could do without soon discovered the ice that lurked beneath the dusting of fresh snow.
With horizontal snow and temperatures of well below -6, Sally was in her element. I was bribed with a constant drip feed of hot chocolates and fresh coffee at each hut we passed. Rosemarie chattered away to everyone and knew most of those we passed.
All were content to return to hot drinks, a snug lounge and to watch, through triple glazing, the last of the blizzard pass. Tomorrow we have a perfect forecast and the snow should be immaculate so no more bribes will be required.
