Six days after the hurricane power was restored to the St Peter’s Canal swing bridge and we slipped into the lock with three other boats. Harmony (OCC), Calico Skies (OCC) and the gorgeous schooner out of Portland, Lions Whelp (CCA). The latter was rather shouty it has to be said using their loud hailer to demand line handlers from ashore and yelling impatiently at each other as they fumbled their lines. It didn’t help that one of them took our lines and then felt it his duty to lecture us on Brexit - that didn’t end well!
We motored out of the canal on Thursday and threaded the channel before setting the sails and pointing the bows SW in the vague direction of Halifax. We will decide where we are heading to exactly in the morning. But we have a clear night, a full moon, a beam wind and flat seas so the temptation to push on was compelling.
