Cloud Forest

Cloud forest

Our climb for the day was around 1,000m which started with a flat traverse on a bulldozed track past Chirri’s new tea lodge which is currently being crafted out of wood and stone.

Then we veered off the road and climbed through pine forest to morning tea in a basic tea house.

As we climbed the forest of pine and rhododendron became swathed in mist with ferns, mosses and fungi sucking moisture from the cloud. Every now and then a woodman’s axe punctuated our climb. These majestic forests of Nepal are a home to bears and red panda and are one of the delights of a long approach walk to the high Himalaya.
