The walk from Machharmo to Gokyo was a delight. A light dusting of snow fell overnight and the clouds peeled back as we climbed. Warming sunshine and a cooling wind kept us plodding on; pausing only to photograph the amazing scenery as each new view was revealed.
We arrived at Gokyo Mid-morning and found it nestling on the shores of the third lake with the dramatic backdrop of Cho Oyo towering above. A spectacular setting to spend two days here acclimatising to 4,800m.
In the afternoon we strolled up onto the moraine to view the huge, dry glacier and the evening light on the mountains.
