Every 4 years there’s a bike ride from Paris to Brest and back. 1,219 km of pedalling shoulder to shoulder with a pack of 6,000 other mad-men and 500 mad-women.
The aim is not to win but to finish within 90 hours and, needless to say, Sally and I weren’t entered as we would need nearer 90 days! But Franz, the hero of a couple of Round Austria Races, did decide to take his bike along to Paris for a quick whiz through the French countryside. Franz’s ultra endurance cycling expertise has, once again, been on display for the last 2 days. With Berta on hand to feed him a croissant every 400 km he blasted his way west to Brest where he turned around and blasted his way back to Paris and the finishing line. Another remarkable athletic performance - 1,219 km in 49 hours and 25 minutes - and definitely finishing at the sharp end of of the 6,000 string pack even though he wasn’t racing!
Many congratulations.
