Hauled out as planned on Raiatea

Shimshal’s 5,500 mile voyage is over for 2024 and she has been plucked from the Pacific by an expert team thanks to CNI Shipyard, Raiatea. She was then towed by tractor past S/V Delos to a very sheltered corner of the shipyard where she was manoevred, carefully, into a super-snug hard standing adjacent to the workshops.

We already have all the sails off, we have serviced the engine and generator and have decommissioned the watermaker. The only snag thus far has been a defunct isolating transformer but that is now more or less redundant as we are back in the land of 240 volt SHOREPOWER. The transformer is disconnected for now and we will probably replace it (for marina living) once in NZ.

We were pleased to see how clean the hull was when hauled and that’s a just reward for all the countless hours ‘Team Shimsh’ spent scrubbing with a snorkel and with my NEMO underwater breathing system.

The pressure hose has just powered up and we hope that that will finally see the end of the masking tape applied to the bootline when we coppercoated in Panama. Tenacious stuff that masking tape, it’s survived a Pacific crossing!

Anyway, plenty more jobs to do before our homeward journey starts next Monday!

PS - the pressure hose removed the grime on the bootline with ease but, sadly, not the tenacious decarator’s masking tape that has survived so many ocean miles!
