Birthdays Abroad

Birthdays Abroad

Several decades ago Sally once told us she celebrated her birthday in Nepal with a Mars Bar. For this particular birthday Maddy presented her with a rosette which she neatly pinned to her fleece. The sort of rosette awarded to prize livestock but clearly endorsed 'Happy Birthday'. For the rest of us it was a useful reminder that it was, indeed, Sally's special day.

She did rather better than a Mars Bar too as she was presented with a delicious Terry's Chocolate Orange, a bar of Ritter Sport and a card bearing Sally's favourite Dr Seuss quote.

The prize for birthday celebratory endeavour though went the Nima Sherpa who, under dimmed lights carried in an enormous cake bearing a solitary candle. He had combed the town for the 18 eggs required to bake such a huge cake and and had improvise by using a momo steaming tin instead of his normal baking tools. Anyway the end result was professionally presented with icing and commemorative inscription before it was immediately gobbled up by the assembled team. It fed us all - trekkers, Sherpas, Porters, Lodge Owner and lodge owners family.
