Day 10- a long way down.
Shortly after dawn some high altitude clouds flooded in from the west. The weather was on the change.
Three weeks earlier Sally was chatting with rheumatologist about the prognosis for her knees and other joints. Today, with some more encouraging results having been emailed to us a few days earlier, she decided to put both knees through their paces. Starting the day at 4,000m and combined two ascent days into a single descent day.
Cooler in descent than it was in ascent due to the deteriorating weather we strolled through the Yak pastures, villages and landslides. Onwards and downwards we went entering the dense jungles of the river gorge during the afternoon. As we crocodiled through the trees that were alive with Maquak monkeys a striking rendition of ‘Advance Australia Fair’ struck up which certainly saw the monkeys off.
By mid afternoon the knees had descended 1,200m with 300m to go. Sally’s rheumatologist must have been starting to fret but she crossed the finishing line at 4pm and, amazingly still seems able to walk.
More down tomorrow.
