Launched and on our way

The wind blew yesterday and the cold rain meant that the 3 remaining indoor fixes on the boat were attended to. The fridge was re-gassed, the sticking valve on the aft heads was replaced and the non-working depth sounder was coaxed into life. By evening we were all good to go.

More wind rocked the boat overnight and we awoke to the sound of rain on deck. Neither of us were in a hurry to get off and so, instead, embarked on a long round of sad farewells. Peter and Carolyn Watkins have been kind and gentle hosts who leant us their car to shop when the rain was hammering down on Wednesday. The Lewisporte Yacht Club is full of characters and all of them kind, polite, interested and interesting. All intensely proud of their island home and heritage.

With contrary winds forecast we shook hands and swapped contact details with as many folk as we could find and it wasn’t until 2 pm that we let go the lines and let our keel skim the seabed to find open water.

We are anchored tonight at Sivier Island, the wind has died and, for a few minutes, the cloud let the sun through. We are finally on our way again. We are excited to be heading for new adventures but sad to be saying farewell to the folk that live in this enchanting part of the World.
