Shimshal finally makes it to Chester

Shimshal is registered in the ancient Roman port of Chester in the U.K. The port there is the closest ‘Port of Registry’  to our Welsh home but silted up centuries ago and has become Chester’s race course. With no dock and precious little water Shimshal has never visited Chester U.K. and we were determined to make sure we made a visit to Chester, NS.

Yesterday evening, after lunch in Deep Cove, we dropped the anchor in Back harbour amidst the glittering array of palatial waterfront and manicured properties. Apparently the town is named after yet another Chester (in the USA) and was conceived as a holiday destination for Americans fleeing the summer heat. Conveniently, in those days, they flocked to their holiday homes by train but now the railway lines have become hiking trails through Nova Scotia’s never ending forests.

Chester boast quite a few OCC and CCA members and they are proving a sociable lot. Morning coffee was with the crew of  Inuksuk III and this evening Wilson and Thelma Fitt are cooking supper for us and a handful of others. We are feeling thoroughly spoiled!
