Cloud forest living

We have spent the last few days at a former cattle ranch 1,900 metres up in the Panamanian Cloud Forest. Now a tiny eco-lodge and micro coffee plantation, Mt Tortumas is the perfect antidote to 5 months at sea. Our home for the last four days has been a wiFi free treehouse and our nearest neighbours are a nesting pair of Quetzals about 30 meters from our balcony. There’s only 20,000 pairs of these astonishing birds left on the planet and we have had the pleasure of watching their antics whilst sipping home grown geisha coffee from our private jungle paradise.

The bird with the most spectacular call here is the Three-wattled Bellbird and we were lucky enough to track on of those down posing for us this morning in just the right light.
