It seems the rainy season began the moment the 4x4 picked us up from the delectable Black Mountain Cafe in Volcan. The clouds had been gathering in the mountains and soon we were bouncing along through the dripping forest on a twisty track that wound its way up into the clouds. At first it was a bit like being in Wales on a wet Saturday afternoon but then the cloud grew thicker and the day darker and more reminiscent of Mordor.
At 2pm we were deposited at Mount Totumas where we were met by Karin and her umbrellas. She was excited about the rain as they hadn’t seen, ‘rain like this for many months’. We quickly donned our cycling waterproofs and walked down to our treehouse which will home for the next few days.
The humming birds paid a visit and exotic jungle bird calls could be heard above the hammering of rain on the tin roof.
