The Lonely Planet guide said there were plenty of walks on the island and we only spotted the private notices once we had been dropped off by the water taxi. Anyway, we got to spend a pleasant hour wandering around before a German guy in a pickup spotted us and told us to leave. His two snarling German Shepards underlined his orders so we quit but not before spending some time with the Howler Monkeys and woodpeckers.
