We have been mulling over the pros and cons of hauling Shimshal versus leaving her in the water for the 8 months we will be back in Europe. As part of h the research we decided to make the 20 mile round trip to check out the haul out facility. This involved a 35 knot Panga trip, a brief taxi trip to the end of the tarmac road and then a muddy wallow along a jungle track to the Bocas Yacht Services boatyard. There we met Olmyra the manager, Alta the lift driver, Agustin the yard fixer and Ernesto the man in charge of fibreglassing. Fortunate the boatyard launch returned us to downtown Almirante to catch our Panga home.
Sally and Simon left Scotland in 2015 on board Shimshal to begin a slow circumnavigation taking in various high latitude destinations. After 3 seasons in Greenland we sailed south to Lewisporte in northern Newfoundland. In 2019 we cruised the Canadian Maritimes. In 2022 & 23 we cruised via New England, Chesapeake, Florida, Cuba, Cayman, Providencia to Bocas del Toro. In late 2023 we transited the Panama Canal in readiness of a Pacific crossing in 2024.
