The first kayak trip of the year was Friday’s jaunt around our bay in a sunny afternoon with seals keeping a close eye on us most of the way. That evening our friends arrived from Aberdeen (Ronnie and Alison) with their kayaks and we had a perfect forecast for a Saturday circuit of Luing which is one of our favourite excursions from our boathouse.
There was fog on the horizon when we pushed off our beach at 8am but within a few hours we were paddling in sunshine. Within an hour we had seen otters and eagles then come plenty of geese, nesting swans and a flight of curlew. On Luing’s west coast we threaded the approach channels to haul out at Cuillipool where we had a delicious lunch and a chance encounter with Mark and Helen our near neighbours from Craobh Haven Watersports.
After lunch we were swooshed through Cuan Sound by a gentle neap tide. By the time we got back to the boathouse at 4pm we were all a little stiff with a few sore muscles.
