To minimise the chance of damaging coral and to reduce the chance of chain getting caught on a bommie, we will now be floating our chain above the seabed at every anchorage. We use pearl farm floats spliced to carabinas with thin line to attach the floatsto the chain. At our present anchorage 90% of our chain is not ranging across the seabed. We only use thin, short line in the hope that if a wayward float got entangled in our propeller then our rope cutter would make easy work of cutting it free.
Seems to work well and the floats are easy to attach and detatch as we anchor and raise anchor.
