Fogo Island

Fogo Island has become the exclusive playground for the super-rich who migrate to the enormously expensive Fogo Island Inn  by helicopter or private jet. We borrowed a car from the harbour master to drive the 20km up from our dock in Seldom Cove. We had rung ahead to book a meal but, to Sally’s enormous financial relief, no tables were available. They probably wouldn’t have let us in anyway with stubbly chin and sea blown hair! Instead, we poked around in the foyer enjoying the warm glow of the log burner and the stunning ocean views trying not to recognise the great and the good.

We docked alongside the Fishing Merchant’s Museum and had the private tour by Anne, the Harbour Master and guide. She also kindly leant us her car for the day to thoroughly explore the Island. From the twisted wooden houses and fish salting sheds at Tilting to the sumptuous luxury of the Fogo Island Inn.

In the afternoon another OCC boat sailed into Seldom Harbour and came alongside the dock immediately behind us. Welcome to Gustav and Anna on S/V Muckle Flugga. The first sailboat we have seen since leaving Lewisporte.
