When the storms whip up the Grand Banks then one of the safest ports of refuge is Trepassey. They say it is the place where the fog is made. The fog that swamps the coasts of Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Maine.
Today we sailed into Trepassey with no sign of the ’Perfect Storm’ and fog manufacturing was definitely not on the worksheet. Instead we enjoyed an early arrival at our anchorage, stunning, sunny and clear weather and a walk up to the 18th century Battery. We anchored off (marked on the photo by an arrow) as the Government Wharf was being renovated.
We have now rounded Cape Race and turned west to cruise Newfoundland’s southern coast.
