Autumn is advancing in Nova Scotia and with it comes the end of the sailing season as boat yards scramble to move boats ashore and dismantle their docks and moorings ahead of the deep freeze. Yesterday Shimshal slipped her mooring in Gold River and motored a few metres to the dock where she was met by the repaired cradle that launched her a month ago. The lift out was not as dramatic as the lift in and there were no loud bangs, expletives or panicking boat yard workers. All went without incident and now Shimshal sits on her stands in poll position for an early spring launch.
Sally and Simon left Scotland in 2015 on board Shimshal to begin a slow circumnavigation taking in various high latitude destinations. After 3 seasons in Greenland we sailed south to Lewisporte in northern Newfoundland. In 2019 we cruised the Canadian Maritimes. In 2022 & 23 we cruised via New England, Chesapeake, Florida, Cuba, Cayman, Providencia to Bocas del Toro. In late 2023 we transited the Panama Canal in readiness of a Pacific crossing in 2024.
